Response to the Recent Actions in Florida

In affirming the teachings of Jesus Christ to love our neighbors as ourselves, St. Anne's responds to the recent actions of a few individuals in the State of Florida by

1. composing and disseminating a petition that supports the rights of our Muslim brothers and sisters to worship according to their faith tradition and condemns the acts of desecration of another faith tradition's symbols, and
2. contacting partners in the community - both here and abroad - to participate in, support, and help plan an interfaith memorial service for the victims of the violence in Afghanistan. (Date and location to be determined).

To see a short video of Father Lawrence reading the petition, during a recent Sunday service at St. Anne's, click here.
And here is the petition with signatures gathered following Fr. Lawrence's reading.

Why a Petition?

A video featuring Afghan Youth for Peace produced by the publication, Sojourners, provides insight for the need for a petition. To view the video click here

The petition is available for signing in the Kennedy Parish Hall.
In addition, Episcopal Peace Fellowship (EPF) has posted the petition on its website and has arranged for its electronic signing.  Click here for the EPF website.

The signed petition will be sent to Afghan Youth for Peace and other peace organizations in Afghanistan.
