ECO-PALMS for Palm Sunday Services
The palms used for St. Anne's Palm Sunday services are ECO-PALMS. The designation of ECO-PALMS assures the purchaser that the palm harvesters are earning a fair income for their labor and that the palms are being harvested from the rain forest in an ecologically healthy, environmentally sustainable way thereby protecting the future employment of the harvesters and the rain forest's rich biodiversity which includes the winter habitat of many migratory bird species. More information on ECO-PALMS and this project is available in the Kennedy Parish Hall.
St. Anne's Receives "Green" Grant
The Vestry has been informed that St. Anne's has received a "Green" grant in the amount of $5,000 from the North Carolina Episcopal Church Foundation, Inc. The Foundation's "Green" grants program has been in effect for two years and is designed to support projects that allow a church to reduce the consumption of energy and other natural resources required to operate a congregation's facilities. The grant will be used to assist us in replacing five exterior doors (two in the sanctuary, two in the Child Care facility, and those in the Narthex) with insulated, steel exterior doors that are virtually maintenance free and that will yield a significant reduction in energy consumption as well as electrical and natural gas costs.
